Child studying with books in a cozy home setting

Academic Tutoring

Learning that meets the child where they are

Patient, personalized academic support rooted in genuine curiosity — for homeschool families, struggling learners, and children who simply want to go deeper.

My approach to teaching

I don't believe in drilling and testing. I believe in understanding. When a child truly understands something — when it clicks — their whole face changes. That moment is what I'm after every single session.

I work at the child's pace, not a curriculum's. I find the gaps, fill them gently, and build real confidence alongside real skill. I'm patient, encouraging, and genuinely interested in how each child thinks.

Child reading independently

Subject areas

Core academics taught with patience, depth, and genuine enthusiasm.

Reading & Phonics

From early phonics and decoding to fluency, comprehension, and a love of literature. I work with beginning readers, struggling readers, and children who read well but want to read more deeply.

Writing

Sentence structure, paragraph organization, essay writing, creative writing, and the mechanics of grammar and punctuation,  taught as tools for expression, not rules to memorize.

Mathematics

Arithmetic, fractions, decimals, pre-algebra, and beyond. I focus on conceptual understanding first, then fluency, so children know why, not just how.

Language Arts

Spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and the broader world of language, approached with curiosity and care for the beauty of words.

History & Geography

Stories, maps, timelines, and the big sweep of human experience. History taught as narrative, not memorization.

Science

Nature study, life science, earth science, and the habit of asking good questions. Science as wonder, not just facts.

Homeschool support

I have extensive experience working with homeschool families — as a tutor, a co-op teacher, and a curriculum consultant. Whether you need someone to teach a subject you don't feel confident in, provide accountability and structure for an independent learner, or simply offer your child a different voice and perspective, I can help.

How sessions work

Learning environment

I come to you. Sessions take place in your home or at your local library. I prefer to work in-person but can also meet over video chat if needed.

One-on-one focus

Every session is tailored to the individual child: their strengths, their gaps, their pace, and what genuinely interests them.

All ages welcome

From early readers just beginning to decode, to high schoolers working through complex writing. I adapt to the learner in front of me.
