Getting Organized Challenge – Day #7

Well, we're a week into 2011 and I haven't given up yet! I'm still working the challenges (and trying to be true to my FlyLady routines finally) and feeling great!

Today is day #7 and the challenge is

the pantry!

So, here is mine:

I used to be great about our pantry. When we first moved in, about a year and a half ago, I got some containers and labeled and kept up with it pretty well. Often times when I'm putting away groceries I just grab an open spot rather than put it in its correct spot then periodically have to go through and straighten things up. Well, the pantry has been neglected since the summer and it shows!

I wish I had drawers like Toni's at a bowl full of lemons because I love this idea! Maybe I'll take out the bottom shelf and put some drawers in one of these days. For now, I like things how they are. I pulled everything out, gave all the shelves and the floor a good scrub down (I really need to put down some shelf paper but still haven't picked any up!)

I got to purge a ton of things that were expired (woops!) Usually when I purchase a new spice jar, I write the spice or herb plus the expiration date on the plastic lid so I can see it when I pull out the basket rather than hunt for a date on the bottom of the jar. Whenever I see a month that has passed, I toss. Well, like I've said, I've been pretty lazy about the upkeep for the last six months. I tossed out a handful of old spices, a box with one lasagna noodle in it, some stale cereal, etc. I put everything back on its labeled shelf and viola!

It's been a while since I've stocked the pantry and desperately need to run to the store. It's just been such a sick / lazy / snowy week and we're eating out of the freezer. It'll get a little more crowded in there soon!

Does your pantry need a makeover? Head over to a bowl full of lemons and join in on the challenge!
