Baking Powder Biscuits
I'm kind of ashamed to say that I'd never made biscuits without help from Pillsbury or Bisquick! I figured it was about time to try my hand at some basic biscuits.
Baking Powder Biscuits 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 tablespoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 cup butter 3 tablespoons shortening about 3/4 cup milk Preheat oven to 450°F. Grease baking sheet. Sift flour, baking powder and salt into medium bowl. using pastry blender or 2 knives, cut in butter and shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in enough milk to make soft dough. Turn out onto lightly floured surface. Knead dough lightly. Roll out 1/2-inch thick. Cut biscuit rounds with 2-inch cutter. Place on greased baking sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until browned.

I didn't need to, but I wanted to use my new mixer (Mother's Day came early this year from Matt! This more than makes up for the last two years of missed Mother's Days!) The biscuits were extremely easy and fast and well, tasted like pretty good biscuits! Rhino and I enjoyed them with strawberry jam as well as honey. I think next I'll attempt some homemade jam!

[...] a large Mother’s Day purchase because it’s something “for the house.” In my biscuits post I mentioned my new mixer. Matt ordered it for Mother’s Day and it came much earlier than [...]
Very nice mixer!!! I’ve been eyeballing these for some time but I’m not sure I’d get much use out of one myself. I prefer cooking to baking I guess but I think you definitely have a lot of fun times with this mixer in store that’s for sure!
Ohh, I bet you would! The tiny little book that comes with the mixer has recipes that use it to make meatballs, a nutty cheeseball, frostings, pasta and of course a bunch of baking things. And there are a ton of attachments for it that make pasta, grind meat, slice vegetables, make ice cream, juice oranges, etc. It can replace pretty much all of your other appliances!
We don’t have all the fancy attachments yet, but there’s a handful that I definitely want to check out that will aid in more than just baking. I do really love to bake though, so it will definitely be awesome for me with all the doughs and batters.
