Sand Dollar Beach

I went out by myself to take a few photos without the boys. I love taking pictures of them, but I spend pretty much every minute with them, so I really cherish times when Matt wants to stay at home and give me an hour or two to go shoot our area by myself.

I went to Sand Dollar Beach. I’m pretty sure that’s not it’s real name, but because we Americans don’t know or can’t say/remember the real names of places, it seems that people just make names up for places. I turned left at the first light out the POL gate, passed the airport, and went until the road split. You can go either right or left and cut over to the next road that runs perpendicular to the one you were just on. That back road has tons of beach access paths. I just picked one and went until I hit sand, then walked around.

It was pretty chilly and very windy, but it was so nice to be out, just listening to the birds and the waves crashing. I saw lots of sand dollars (and took one home for my kitchen window sill), trash, birds, and driftwood, climbed up on the breakers, and ventured down a small wooded path next to the beach.

How do you incorporate this picture collage thing into your blog posts? I love it & would really like to learn how to do it too!

  • There is a lot of different ways to do it using Photoshop templates, other collage programs, etc but I just go to Picnik and use their collage feature because it’s really quick and easy. There are a bunch of free things to do on there, but a while ago I bought a membership because I thought I’d use it for most of my photo editing. Then I played around with Picassa, Lightroom, and Photoshop and never really touch Picnik except for the collages. :-D I like to use them when I have too many photos I want to share but don’t want to overwhelm the post with a ton of images!!

Awesome, thanks! I’ll check it out. I like the collages you do where you can click on the individual pictures within it to see a bigger version yet it’s all neat & tidy & not overwhelming a post which I occasionally have issues with. I just have so many pictures I want to post sometimes but it ends up looking messy when I post too many, so thanks for this!

  • Ahh, well the clickable collages are actually image maps. I write the HTML for the maps (you can learn how to do that here) but I’m sure there are tools out there to make them for you.

Ahhh ok. Well I signed up for Picnik & am in LOVE with it. What an amazing site!!! I can’t believe I didn’t know about it sooner, lol. I’ll look into this image mapping, thanks so so so much!
