Wahh! Broken Camera??
We went out to the Shimoda Mall the other day to pick up a few things and I brought the new camera along. I went to power up and nothing happened, so I figured the battery died. When we got home I put a different, charged battery in and the camera powered up fine. Immediately I get an error on the screen saying “Error: Press shutter release button again.” Press. Press, press. Turn off and on, press. Remove lens and press. Change lenses, press. Remove and replace card, press. Change cards, press. Format cards, press. Google, Google, Google. I see lots of questions about this problem, but no real solutions (other than “send to Nikon.”) The few suggestions that people could offer didn’t help. It’s two days later and nothing’s better. From what I’m reading, there’s nothing I can do. I need to stay up late enough to call a stateside camera shop for some information, advice, and an estimate.
I don’t regret buying a used camera. I know the previous owner and the camera appears to be taken care of extremely well. I talked to him on the phone the other day and he said he never ran across this problem (or any problems) with it when he had it. Buying used was much better for our bank account, and if I had bought new I would have a warranty (no warranty currently because it’s too old, but a new D40x is SO much more expensive!) I’m really hoping it’s a cheap repair, because if it’s $300 or something, then I don’t know what we’re going to do (consider just buying a different one in the future, I guess.)
It’s frustrating, though. I feel like I’m being impatient, but I’ve waited a long time to even purchase this camera, then of course when the time comes for it to arrive in Japan, etc. I get 300 shots under my belt in 2 days and then it won’t work. I promise I didn’t hurt it at all! I’m just anxious to play with it and learn more and it’s sitting right in front of me, useless to me now. Waahh! I guess soon I’ll see what we can do about it.
