New Camera

For a long time I’ve been somewhat interested in photography and have thought about purchasing a nice camera. Three years ago we bought a Sony DSC-2H, which was definitely cheaper than a DSLR. It has served me well and takes really nice photos, but has been having some issues lately with not powering up and some other little things. I wanted to learn more about photography and have more control but thought all DSLRs would be too expensive.

Playground Swings

I just recently started looking at prices of a nicer camera and was surprised that they weren’t all as bad as I thought. We’ve been talking the last couple of months about putting some of our tax return towards a camera, before Baby is born. Well my dad just recently purchased a used Nikon D40x and a D80 to play with. He decided he likes the D80 more and offered to sell me the D40x (which he had purchased from a good friend.)

Rhino on the Playground

So I bought the D40x along with an 18-70 mm lens and a 5-200mm VR lens as well as all the normal accessories and he also threw in two of his old manual lenses so I can play around with doing things the hard way. :-)

Kisses Through the Bars

Matt and I took Rhino up the big hill behind our house and to the two playgrounds right by us to test out the new camera. I have tons to learn, but it was fun and I got a few good shots! Rhino didn’t love being on top of the hill, but he really enjoyed being pushed around in his new car. He’s starting to enjoy the playgrounds more, too. He keeps wanting to crawl up the slides, which is too much fun to watch! He’s doing so much more walking now and would walk all around the playground pointing at things!

Rhino Crawling Through Playground

I found out that there is a photography club here at Misawa and I’m looking forward to getting together with them for shoots and their “lunch and learn”s. I’m excited about getting outside this spring with Rhino and getting some more photos of the local area, too!
