Knitting Updates
Since Christmas gift knitting is complete and gifted, I’ve been working on a few projects for ourselves. I started another soaker for Rhino a while ago and actually “finished” it in December, but I’m going to need to do some more work on it. I finished the second leg gusset, then realized that it was much larger than the first and just not functional. So I’m posting a picture, but I still need to rip out the left leg and make it reasonable! This was the first striped thing I knitted and Matt picked the colors. It’s a little roomy on Rhino, but will shrink down after some wear and washing, but it does fit well enough on him right now. (Ravelry page for striped soaker.)
Back in October actually, I made Rhino another little beanie hat. It was initially going to be for Matt, but I wasn’t using a pattern and ended up making it too small. (Ravelry page for brown baby beanie.)
In November I made Rhino’s first pair of longies. Longies are wool diaper covers that are also pants. He just wears these over a cloth diaper and the longies keep me and the sheets dry! Matt was trying to be helpful and do the laundry one day and threw these in as well. When wool goes through a normal wash, it felts up and shrinks. Well, Rhino got a couple wears out of these, but now they’re going to be for Baby #2! (Ravelry page for big stripe longies.)
Oh, I see I never posted about Matt’s grey hat either. Well, in November I made Matt a hat out of some yarn he picked out. It’s ribbed and stretches really well, so it fits Rhino, me, and Matt (though I wish I had made it a little bit longer for him.) (Ravelry page for ribbed hat.)
Matt can’t wear this hat while in uniform, so he requested a black or green regulation cap for wear at work. So I got some cashmere wool blend yarn that’s really soft and warm and made him a plain ol’ black hat. He gets cold at work, so he’s thankful to have it. Now I just need to start on a pair of gloves for him! (Ravelry page for for regulation cap.)
I’ve been working lately on (finally!) a hat for myself. It’s my first attempt at cables and is a little bit tedious. It will be really cool when it’s finished, but I needed a break from it. So I wanted to whip up another cute hat for Rhino! I had some leftover yarn from Matt’s black cap and some pretty, variegated green/blue/purple yarn that I hadn’t known what to do with, so I decided to make a stripes with them. I’d never made a tassel before and thought that would be fun for a kid’s hat, and I think it turned out well! The whole hat is a little big for Rhino right now, but I’m sure it will fit him well soon enough (next winter, probably; then he’ll be able to wear it for quite some time as it stretches so that it fits me!) (Ravelry page for striped tassel hat.)
Well, that’s the update on what I’ve been knitting! I still have a million things on my “to-knit” list! For Christmas I received so many awesome knitting books and I want to make a ton of things from those. So hopefully there will be more updates to come soon!
