22 Week Ultrasound
Today I’m 22 weeks and we had the level 2 ultrasound! It was really great to see our little baby; it sure was different from the 8 week ultrasound!! We saw it’s head (the doc said it’s “a good head”, whatever that means, hah!) and neck and spine. I was hoping for a little dance routine or something, it just wasn’t that active though. We did see one big movement, I think it was just repositioning. We were watching and then all of a sudden it’s whole back and neck adjusted and Matt let out the biggest gasp! We got to see its stomach and it’s heart (and all four chambers, pretty cool). It had little fists curled up to its chest and we could see knuckles as well as cute feet. We didn’t want to find out the gender and we didn’t accidentally see anything like the doctor said we might. It weighs 1 pound, 5 ounces right now, which is appropriate for 22 weeks. The whole thing didn’t last very long and it felt a little rushed, but it was still a thrill to see! We brought a VHS tape because they have a VCR to record, but doc forgot to turn it on while we were doing all this. Then he started it and did a quick once-over for the tape, but when we brought it home there was nothing recorded. I was really bummed out because we don’t have any prints and the tape didn’t work and we don’t have anything for an album or to share with family. It was a wonderful experience seeing how much our baby has grown and finding out that everything is fine and it’s healthy, I just wish we had something tangible to walk away with. There are some of those 3D/4D ultrasound places (though not too close to us) that spend more time looking, printing photos, recording, and trying to talk you into buying keepsakes and we’re considering maybe going to one of those in a month or so. I know we’ll meet the baby in person soon enough, but it’s nice to have mementos for along the way until then.
